Cross-Linked Hyaluronic Acid

Leverage our 15 years of experience in HA.

SYMATESE LAB works with BDDE cross linked Hyaluronic acid for the design of innovative hyaluronic acid fillers and other medical devices. Cross linked hyaluronic acid is a derivative from a naturally occurring macromolecule belonging to the glycosaminoglycan family.

A natural regenerative component

Hyaluronic acid is composed of repeating disaccharide units of glucuronic acid and N-acetylglucosamine. After transformation into crosslinked hyaluronic acid, it exhibits unique properties allowing for many different applications in the medical field:

Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of most human and animal tissues with an identical primary chemical structure whatever the extraction source. It has a rapid and well-known metabolism.

This macromolecule is use in medical field for very long time and is recognised as safe for implantable medical device.

Cross linked hyaluronic acid keeps a strong hydrophilic nature and its structure occupies a very large volume in physiological conditions.

Cross linked hyaluronic acid exhibits viscoelastic properties of great interest in medical context.

Safety, quality, and performance

Still in many of those applications, the medical device’s performance and quality does not only rely on the hyaluronic molecule itself but rather on the quality of the cross-linked hyaluronic acid transformation technology. For example, hyaluronic acid fillers need to be properly crosslinked, purified and formulated to be safe and to match aesthetic or in visco-supplementation use. In most cases, the added value of the device is directly linked to its transformation technology by crosslinking.

For the last 15 years, SYMATESE LAB has developed a wide array of hyaluronic acid fillers transformation technologies to match the needs of a wide array of therapeutic domains.

Hyaluronic acid domains of application

Cross linked hyaluronic acid is the main component of key medical devices in many medical fields, including:

AESTHETIC

Hyaluronic acid fillers for wrinkles and mesotherapy

Skin aging results in wrinkles formation and volume loss. Cross-linked hyaluronic acid is the golden standard used for over 20 years to treat wrinkles and depression of the face. SYMATESE hyaluronic acid fillers are indicated for facial rejuvenation in a wide array of indications such as wrinkles treatment, mid-face volume restauration, and lips volume correction.

OPHTHALMOLOGY

Viscous solution for cataract surgery, vitreous substitute or new innovative use in ophthalmology

RHEUMATOLOGY

Viscosupplementation

The use of injectable hyaluronic solution to treat joint pain dates back from the 90’s. It allows the treatment of arthritis symptoms. Product were initially linear, but more recently new products based on crosslinked hyaluronic acid have been added to the therapeutic toolbox for joint treatment. The use of crosslinked hyaluronic acid gel allows for a single injection treatment instead of the 3 to 5 injections in case of non-crosslinked Hyaluronic acid solution.

SURGERY

Anti-adhesion barrier, wound healing, and wound dressing

Hyaluronic acid is widely used in both wound healing and surgical situation. Its unique properties are very beneficial for the treatment of wounds. After surgery, it is used to prevent adhesion, either in form of a film or a gel.

The outstanding biocompatibility and absorbability of hyaluronic acid are of great interest for such indications.

UROLOGY

Soft tissue filler for treatment of vesico-urethral reflux

As for aesthetic use, the gel properties of crosslinked hyaluronic acid are very interesting as volumizer of other soft tissue. It can be used in urology to correct sphincter malfunction by injection. Low resorption rate of the gel allows for its lasting effect.

The volumizing properties of the gel are also investigated in other therapeutics area such as prostate radiotherapy. The gel is used as an injectable spacer to reduce side effect of irradiation on nearby tissue during prostate cancer treatment.

The SYMATESE LAB success story

For all those therapeutic areas, the key point is the Hyaluronic acid transformation by crosslinking.

One of its most successful achievements of SYMATESE LAB is the development of a versatile cross-linked hyaluronic acid technologies. Those technologies allow transforming hyaluronic acid solution into unique tailor-made gels for multiple potential usage, like hyaluronic acid fillers. One of those technology has been successfully tested and marketed in aesthetic dermatology, through a partnership with a world-class player. This has positioned the company as a global leader among dermal fillers manufacturers. Products issued from that technology have also been tested in clinical trial for other indications such as visco-supplementation, ophthalmology or radiotherapy.

The cross-linked hyaluronic acids are produced in a new and dedicated production line, in compliance with international quality and regulatory requirements, placing SYMATESE LAB as a global leading manufacturer for crosslinked hyaluronic acid gel.

Our BDDE cross linking hyaluronic acid technologies, along with the dedicated production line, make SYMATESE LAB, an ideal partner for companies searching for a fully integrated solution, from the design to production of new hyaluronic acid fillers or crosslinked hyaluronic acid gel. Based on the analysis of their partner’s needs, SYMATESE LAB can design a project going from the needs to the commercialisation of the device.
